Good grief. Seven bucks a pack for slow suicide? Thank God I never started smoking. I applaud you for your determination to stop, but from what I know of my kids and their father, it's tantamount to taking a pair of pliers and twisting off one testicle, followed by sauteeing it and serving it to yourself for dinner. At least, that's what my kids tell me when I tell them they should quit. Their father chose to start smoking again after a heart attack and quadruple bypass (at the ripe old age of 33.) If that doesn't convince you, I may still have pictures of my kids sitting on the front pew at their father's funeral. Yeah - it's that serious and that real.

You've made me so proud! *sniff* I know I'm here and you're there, but if I can help in any way, as in if you want a recipe, for example (vegetarian only please), I'd love to help you meet your goals.

Tempted to ask elgan. I'm a big chicken fiend. (Making some tonight, again, actually. Rice is the new challenge tonight, and a little gravy. Can again, but the veggies are fresh.) But, more than anything, I'm looking for some tasty sauces for pasta. Vegetarian and all. Last night, I simply took some Ragu Robusto and threw in chopped onions, freshly grated parm and threw together some mashed. From a box. Got to start somewhere. Still, if you've got some good alternatives to tomato sauce, I'm all for it. (I like my tomatoes near pureed. (SP.) Blender on the way, but not here yet. I am at your mercy.

Not kidding, btw.

Oh, and, after having actually read past the first paragraph... then skipping four and seven... CONGA RATS on quitting smoking. I'm on my way. I mean, not now. But some day. I will be on my way. Once I run out... After I stop buying them.

I'll probably need some help...

"Mmmmmmtasty impending culinary travesty. (Like Waterloo with fruit.)" There's that one-liner that I pick from all your entries. So if it's recipes you'd like then recipe's you'll get. And since chicken is on the top of your list... Quick Chicken Cacciatore Prep Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 20 mins 1 1/4 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breast (3 pieces) or, 1 package boneless, skinless chicken thighs, if you prefer dark meat Salt and freshly ground black pepper 2 tablespoons (2 turns around the pan) extra-virgin olive oil 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes 2 portobello mushroom caps, halved crosswise and thinly sliced 4 cloves garlic, crushed and minced 1/2 cup beef broth or stock 1 (28-ounces) can crushed tomatoes A handful flat-leaf parsley, chopped 1 pound egg ribbons or egg fettuccini, cooked to al dente Crusty bread and grated Parmigiano or Romano, for passing Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium high heat. Add half of the extra-virgin olive oil and brown chicken breasts or thighs for 3 or 4 minutes on each side. Remove chicken from pan and season with salt and pepper. Return pan to stove, reduce heat to medium and add the remaining. Add crushed pepper, sliced mushrooms, and garlic. Season with salt (salt is a magnet for drawing out liquid). Cover and cook mushrooms 5 minutes or until mushrooms are dark, tender and have given off their juices. Add about 1/2 cup of beef broth to intensify the wild mushroom flavor, then stir in the tomatoes and parsley. Cut the chicken into bite-size chunks or slices and add to sauce. Simmer sauce 5 minutes to finish cooking chicken pieces and to allow the flavors to combine. Toss pasta with cacciatore and serve with crusty bread and grated cheese.

Four frickin cloves of garlic...dear god. Now I like garlic, but man mincing those mothers is offically the bane of my existence. Still...large with tasty. Just as a final update: Pancakes with Blueberry? Blueberry sauce came out awesome. Pancakes...well...bad eggs. Bad, bad eggs. They will be punished. That is all that need be said.

Another very simple recipe: Wash boneless chicken breasts, slice into strips, stir-fry together with strips of onion and bell pepper, a little salt, black pepper and a can of green chilis. Place in warmed tortilla (microwave about 10 seconds, tops) and top with salsa, sour cream and (if you're really ambitious) guacamole. Voila! You've just made chicken fajitas.
